This is a great little label maker. It has some great options including adding fun symbols and shapes like hearts, stars and different fonts to your labels. I've used it to label glass containers in our pantry for baking items and love the neat and easy to read look of it. Very user friendly and easy way to keep things organized. Of course like all label makers I've used, it seems to use up more tape than I'd like but this one offers a great solution by giving you the "narrow margin" option. This avoids the extra inch margin on either end of your label. Great! I find myself looking for things to label just so I can use this labeler.

This is a good printer for someone looking to customize their labels with designs, upside down/right side up, reverse color and other fancy tricks. For business purposes, I'd recommend a printer that takes larger interchangable tapes and less gimmicks. Maximum tape size is 1/2" so dual line print is very small. Keyboard is very tiny, will be limited to two finger typing only. Has two fonts (Bohemia and Helsenki) but can alter with three sizes, three widths and nine stypes (bold, vertical, underline, shadow, hearts or stars, etc.) Emphasizes Deco Mode which does very fancy printing but wouldn't be used in a standard business setting. Nice compact size so can be carried around easily. AC power supply is an optional accessory ($19) so may want to factor that into purchase, otherwise uses six AAA batteries.

I got this as a gift for my parents - they will probably not use all the fancy features like the graphics you can add with this laber. It comes with one cartridge so you may want to add a few more.

My likes about the p-touch system:

1 - labels last a long time but not forever
2 - colors are available and easy to switch out
3 - conservative on the batteries
4 - compact and nice form factor like a typewriter but smaller - I have 2 other smaller P-touch labelers that go in my trucks for labeling cables and wires - very handy at times.
5 - added fancy graphics features on this model - my small ptouch system is only good for perhaps drawing a box around text, these get pretty fancy
6 - new label design has a split down the middle making removal of the new backing easier - prior labels were troublesome to remove the backing.

I bought this for my dad who turned 75. If he can use it, I think most any age person can get more organized. We find unusual uses for the labels it prints - some are used not only to identify property but also to hold on the battery door on a flimsy product. Others are used to annotate a spreadsheet of medications with a new one before giving it to a new doctor. The uses just keep showing up for the product!

I bought mine during the fast and furious sale which closed out in 5 seconds - as did the next model up with a usb interface. The graphicss are minimal on this but add a nice touch to someone who is beginning scrapping or wants a simple, easy to use low cost label. For serious graphics you will want the pc version. For my dad, this will do fine.

I labeled some outdoor stuff that faded out after a while (3 years) so do note that p-touch labels expire with sunlight.

Lastly, the features are well made such that the cover can be removed fast and replaced without any lost screws or broken snaps. This has always been a brother p-touch feature that I appreciate from my truck labelers which get the tape color changed frequently - it's matter of opening the door and replacing the cartridge - no fancy stuff and can be done one handed. Without that design feature you could easily have a product that breaks far too soon. My 2 other p-touch labelers that are 7 years old and have been dropped off ladders at worksites - still run fine. Its a quality product that will serve many purposes for a long life, which is why dad got one. UPDATE - 1 year later his is still on the first set of batteries and running strong!

I can remember when I was impressed by a 356 MB hard drive on my new computer. (Remember those days?) Now here's this back-up external drive that is a terabyte, something that not so many years ago was in the domain only of supercomputers that took up whole rooms. The really impressive thing is that this is such a nice compact little drive, not much bigger than a deck of playing cards. I've used other drives for back up and have always avoided the back up software that came with some of them, fearing it would get in the way and slow things down when I'm working or that it would take too much time to figure out what to back up and how often to do so. As a result, I often forget to back things up, which could be a disaster if I ever had a hard drive failure.

Now the nice thing about a large external drive such as this one is that it has tons of space and I can just back up everything and keep several copies. The software that comes on the drive installs in minutes and checks for updates for both software and firmware. It gives you a choice of what to back up and the choice of pausing backups when you're working, so you don't have to worry about it getting in your way when you're doing something else. It was simple to enter password protection and comes with a manual on the drive that's easy to understand, as manuals go. You can also choose how many backups to keep at a time and where you'd like those stored. The settings are simple to set up, even partitioning the drive if you decide to do so.

I've used it for a few weeks now and hardly notice it being there. It just does its thing in the background and I can check the backups so I know they're there. Using Windows XP, it puts a little icon down in the menu bar where I can check at any time to see how much space has been used, whether or not it is locked and if the temperature is OK. Unlike some drives I've used in the past, this one seems to run pretty cool and I've never felt it being warm, even when the summer temperatures in the room were warm. I like that it's so small, yet has such high capacity. I'm using a 2.0 interface but it's nice to know it has the 3.0 capability for future use with perhaps a different computer. Two thumbs up for this external hard drive.

First Impressions Review:

This is the first time I have ever used a portable (tiny) external hard drive. I currently use a Cavalry dual disk external drive in RAID configuration which is huge and not really portable.

This new WD drive is fantastic in that it is quite small, doesn't require external power, and it is quite good looking. It is amazing how they fit 1 TB drive in such a small package. One bonus is that when I replace my computer in future with one that has USB 3.0 interface, this drive can handle that. (It works fine with USB 2.0 also.) The device looked and felt solid.

The USB port that is on the drive seems to be proprietary, but it could be a standard port for USB 3.0. The cable that comes with the drive fits snugly and works well. The cable should be saved carefully - I don't have any other cable with that specialized connector.

The backup software resides on the hard disk of the drive. I didn't bother installing that software. I just want to use the drive as plain old storage drive. I connected the drive to a PC with Windows 7, the OS complained with "WD SES Device USB Device - No Driver Found", but showed the drive contents anyway. I could immediately use the drive without haveing to do anything.

Drive properties showed the following:
Used 565 MB
Free 930 GB
Capacity 931 GB

I have split the 1 TB drive into 3 partitions easily (using Win7's built-in tools). I copied a bunch of JPG files into one of the partitions. Everything went smoothly. I am yet to find any issues with the device.

I will update this review if I come across anything significant as I continue to use it.

### PHYSICAL ###
One terabyte that fits in your jeans' pocket. I don't want to go all "when we were young we walked 10 miles to school, etc." on you, but my first hard drive was such that I would have needed 50'000 of 'em to match the capacity, occupying a solid cube 9 feet on each side and setting me back 30 million dollars. That's mind- blowing progress indeed, and while the original advances were made by firms like Seagate and IBM, those have mostly sold off/sourced out in the meantime, leaving Western Digital as the Bleeding Edge hard drive brand.

This device looks like a cigarette holder with a glossy finish. The edges are rounded, and the usb connector is the only opening in the case, so for my occasional transport I just carry the drive in my jacket as-is. It would have been super- neat to have a rubber flap over the usb and perhaps a more scratch- resistant matte finish, but there is no issue here, especially since WD offers inexpensive hardshell and neoprene cases.

### USB3 ###
Finally, ten times the speed of USB2! The USB consortium calls it Super Speed, to distinguish it (not) from the Hi-Speed of USB2 and the Full Speed of USB1. It's beyond me why they don't just name it "5Gbit USB", a moniker which would pit it favorably against eSATA, Ethernet, Firewire, etc... but at least there's a hilarious joke in there for Sci-Fi comedy fans (Google "They've gone into plaid" for the reference, first video link).

But not so fast, Dark Helmet. First, just because the interface is ten times speedier doesn't mean the drive is, and second, it's likely that even your 2010 PC needs an adapter in the form of a PCIx card. And if it does, the USB ports will be on the back of the computer, which may be a problem as the cable that comes in this package is only 16" long. If you need more, you'll have to purchase a Micro USB 3.0 cable, the connector on the drive end is different from USB2. Currently, these cables are rare (none on Amazon!) and expensive, so be careful not to misplace the one you got.

### SPEED ###
This external drive works with both USB2 and USB3, so the question is, is it worth the extra cost of the USB3 adapter, and what exactly is the speed gain one can expect? To figure that out, I've run two tests, one a simple hard drive test via HD Tune, and one a filecopy test.

- HD Tune: (see screenshots for details): with USB2, the interface is the limiting factor, with a transfer rate of 33 MB/sec over the entire range. With USB3, you get the pure drive performance and up to 87MB/sec can be achieved in the outer regions and still a decent 45 MB/sec in the inner regions (the outer regions of the spinning disk have higher velocity and more sectors, hence the higher rate).
- File copy: I copied a batch of 7000 files back and forth a couple times and measured read and write performance separately. Averaged over 5 runs, I found that the read performance gain of USB3 was 19% and the write performance gain was 25%. It needs to be noted that in this scenario there was a lot of overhead - the copy program (robocopy), the file seeks, the destination drive, etc.

So what to make of this? The raw read performance as measured by HD Tune is 2 to 3 times faster with usb3 - nice to see that WD's marketing blurb "up to 3 times faster" is actually true! However, this advantage quickly comes down as you use more complex operations such as copying small files. Given the choice again, I probably wouldn't bother with an USB3 PCI card and just wait for my next PC to have it onboard. If you mainly copy large files (such as movies), you may benefit more from USB3 than I do.

### SOFTWARE ###
The drive comes with some software on it (in lieu of an installation CD) which does two things: enable a hardware encryption and do backups. I've fiddled with it for a while but it left me unsatisfied. Under my (admittedly elderly) WinXP the GUI had rendering problems (holes in the windows!), it wasn't half as intuitive as other software, and at least once I activated the encryption but it didn't take. It also installs a virtual CD, what do I need that for!? The good news here is that WD seems to ship this software with all their external drives now, so it stands to reason/hope that they'll improve on it and you'll be able to download an upgrade.
Of course, if you happen to be a Mac or Win7 Ultimate user, you don't need the WD software at all, just use the built- in stuff.

This is a great option for connecting your laptop to an HDTV, monitor without display port, or your A/V receiver.

Unfortunately if your macbook pro was purchased before the summer of 2010 then this adapter will not carry an audio signal to the HDMI cable that you plug into it. That is easily remedied by purchasing a mini-toslink to toslink cable or adapter and running two cords.

I have this running from my Late 2008 Macbook pro to my Pioneer VSX-1020-K then to my LG 42LH90 and it looks amazing. I will probably braid together a 15ft HDMI cable, a 15ft TOSLINK cable, and a 15ft network cable to use when I want to hook the Mac up to the big screen.

First of all beware buyers, do not buy from the seller ELMENOS if you want a Mini DisplayPort with HDMI with working video AND AUDIO support, I have read all the negative reviews where people said they are not getting audio from their TVs and such. It is because ELMENOS, one out of the several sellers, are selling the Mini DisplayPorts with no AUDIO support. I was; however, lucky enough to order from BargainCell which sent the correct Mini DisplayPort to HDMI that is displayed in the picture. However, my friend who I referred to buy this adapter also bought this item from ELMENOS and they sent him a different adapter than what was displayed in the picture. When he emailed ELMENOS, the seller told him he bought the wrong item, and it does not come with audio support and referred him to a more expensive Mini DisplayPort. All in all I am very happy with my purchase from BargainCell which provided me with AUDIO and VIDEO on my 2010 Macbook Pro; however, my friend is not. It seems that there are many sellers for the same item and when I sent my friend the link to the item I purchased, Amazon randomly shuffles the seller who are listed as selling the same product when it is now obvious that they are not..

Bottomline: BargainCell has the Mini Displayport with Audio Support and ELMENOS does not because they send you a different item then on the picture displayed.

Bought this worried that the audio would not work, and I can confirm that sound and video both works with this adapter. I am using the latest Macbook Pro 13 with Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, the mid 2010, model MC374LL/A. Once connected, the macbook will auto detect your tv and will show both monitors. Just go to system preference, sound, output, and select your TV as the output for the sound. You will then have audio and video on your TV. You could also mirror the screen to the TV and assign the video output for the TV to 1080p, under system preference, displays.

Working great so far!

Who is this Review for?
Anyone considering the Galaxy 10.1" Tablet or not sure whether to go with iPad or this (or any other Android tablet).If you're very confused by all the entries to the Android Tablet category lately, I'm going to try and help. First things first, if you're definitely going with an Android tablet, FORGET ALL THE OTHERS, this is the ONE (see why below). That is, unless price is a big concern for you, in which case you probably really should not buy a Tablet to begin with, but if you still want one, go with the Asus Transformer. OK, on to the review of the Galaxy 10.1:

The Good
In time this will be better than iPad2. It's a beautiful device. Don't listen to those saying there is some discernible difference in the hardware quality or the "wow" factor between this and ipad2. There really is not. Except for one thing-- you really can feel the small weight difference. Galaxy 10.1 is slightly lighter than iPad 2, and if you pick up one right after the other, you will notice the difference. Don't get me wrong, both are absurdly light, but I love how light and portable the Galaxy is. Don't even THINK of getting another Android Tablet on the market as of this writing. This is light years ahead of them all even though there is no SD slot. It's much lighter than the Xoom (and all the others out now), almost to the point that I would put it in a different class of product. It's kind of like carrying around clipboard (of very sturdy quality). No strain. Whereas carrying around the other Android Tabs is kind of like carrying around a light textbook. If the difference doesn't matter to you...then don't pay the price difference for this Tab. Just get an Asus Transformer. The ability to have customizable widgets and apps (like weather on your home screen), to me, makes this device, and Android in general, more powerful than iPad. And, if you already have an Android phone, you really should stick with the Android Tabs, which will allow a much better integration for you. For one thing, you can tether some Android phones VERY easily to the tablet. If you have an iPhone, I'd stick to ipad and their cloud, which will really protect everything on all your devices. Hopefully this advice will help you folks who have one phone or the other and are on the fence over whether to buy iPad or this Tablet (or any other Android Tablet). The screen on this Tablet is just gorgeous. Response, over all is good but not as fluid as Ipad. For most functions (except for one VERY important one, described below) you will not notice a difference. I promise you. I saw a review on here which is, ahem, ranked higher than mine --ugh-- saying that ithe Phone's "cachet" is something to be considered. Utter nonsense. You will look great with this tablet and you'll enjoy using it and people will say WOW when they see it. This device has better specs than the iPad, is just as sleek, just as functional, has flash (something that I believe is somewhat overrated though as websites move away from flash), and will eventually --EVENTUALLY-- have a better app experience than iPad. Eventually. :-) Which leads me to "The Bad":

The Bad
I saw a previous review saying that the keyboard responded slowly. After using it I can confirm that there really IS a delay between typing and text appearing on screen using SOME features like the browser. WHY? Is it honeycomb? Something that will be resolved with an update? Or is the hardware faulty and just that slow? I really hope it's the former, but I have no idea and I'm not going to buy one until I find out.

UPDATE (6/28/11): Awesome job by Commentor Scott Welch who seems to have found a fix for this. Scott explains,"I experienced the keyboard delay. It appears to be a problem with the Samsung Keyboard. I switched to the Android keyboard and it works GREAT!!! Setting> Language & Input> Current input Method." THANK YOU Scott.

Another disappointing thing is that there isn't Swype on the tablet (note: I haven't seen Swype on ANY Android Tablet yet, though, and it's disappointing).

UPDATE(6/28/11): Swype IS now available for the Honeycomb Tablets! Thanks to Commentors C.V. Tang and Brian Mason. C.V. Tang explains that "The Swype Beta are out for Honeycomb [see his comment below for the link, Amazon won't allow links in reviews]. Brian Mason added that "Swype 3.0 beta is now available for Honeycomb. Very cool how you can set it to small keyboard mode for single finger swyping on either side."

Great job, C.V. and Brian! Based on their comments, bump this review from 4 to 4.5 Stars. I've always felt that Swype is one thing that really separates Android from iPhone/iPad and shows the difference between the two systems in terms of power and customization, as Android market has so many variations of Swype that are just wonderful.
